Sony products avoided for life

Reviewer: Doug Lind,
Camera is fine when it has worked, which was exactly 90 days ago. And i bought a 2 year warrantee!!!
My kid got the camera for Christmas with the 2 year extended warrantee for parts and labor
On 3/29, I called Sony because touch screen failed. still on sony's warrantee for parts, they had a tech walk me through tests. after testing they said send it in to sony but then decided that it should be send to CPS, the extended warrantee company. CPS received the camera in late April and finally the online site noted that "it was sent service center" on 5/6/10. It is 6/29/10 and I still have no idea when they will have the part and fix the camera.

So, between Sony's inability to furnish parts and their warrantee company ,CPS, to expedite a repair, I and my 2 teenage sons have vowed to avoid any Sony products ( 2 months to provide a new touch screen?).
The camera is fine as long as it never needs to be repaired.
Very Nice Camera but not Great in low light.

Reviewer: J. S,
I had this camera then return it for the 110. This camera is very grainy in low light conditions. But when outside its very nice. My videos were clear and the colors were rich. And sony has some great software thats very easy to use. I've heard it doesnt work great on mac though. I havent really tried the software on my macbook pro. I would say if you have a budget then this is still a very nice camera but if you do alot of indoor video then you probably wont be impressed.
Great Product

This camera is awesome! Considering the price of this camera the video it takes is pretty vibrant. The pictures it snaps aren't the best quality and prefer my sony camera for that, but the HD video is clean and clear.. I took this camera with me to Florida and took some great video at the zoo and of the sunset. It was the perfect size for traveling. It's easy to use and I hate reading directions so this worked excellent for me. I found the size a little difficult to start the video because the button is located in an odd place. I also don't like that the screen gets smudged with finger prints. As long as you're not eating fried chicken while filming anything you'll be fine. The fingerprints wipe away easily. All in all this is a great camcorder for the price. Once again I am pleased with my Sony purchase.

Reviewer: Average Joe,
After reading reviews for other consumer HD camcorders, I decided on the Sony HDR-CX100 for the low cost and true HD quailty. In my opinion, the HDR-CX100 is the best HD consumer camcorder you can get for way under $400. The highest video quality is 1080p and with its internal 8gb memory, that would give you 1hr of video. The battery (fh40) that came in the box only last 1-1 1/2 hrs, therefore an extra battery (fh70, that last 2-2 1/2 hours) is recommended if you plan to shoot longer videos made possible with a memorystick expansion slot. Purchasing an external charger is also recommended if you plan to have extra battery. If you have read other reviews about poor low light performance, that is true; the low light videos are grainy. However, other more expensive consumer camcorders also have low light performance issues. The CX100 HD quality is better than SD camcorders, but for the fraction of what other HD consumer camcorders cost. I am happy with my purchase as someone who just uses his camcorder for trips, vacations, and special events; nothing professional.
